Minister's Retreat '10
Oct. 18-20
Word of Life Inn - Schroon Lake
Speaker: Dr. Jo Anne Lyon

alt

What pastors and their spouses had to say about last year's retreat within the context of the following questions:
As you go from this event...
  • What will you be thinking about?
  • What has God spoken to you about?
  • What did you learn?
  • What are you excited about?

God has been working on me for some time, and this week He really got a hold of me...When Brandon shared his heart and struggles, my heart melted.  I could related to his story in so many ways.  Through his testimony I realized I have to take more ownership in my relationships...I am learning to rejoice more with those God places in my path and that I need to risk vulnerability.

God is speaking to me about what ministries should be happening vs. what ministries are happening.  I left the reatreat excited about souls.

How big our God is and what He wants to do in our church/community.  I need to be encouraging people.  I learned that it's okay to fail as long as you just keep trying.

How blessed we are to be a part of Kingdom work and how content we are to know we are serving where we have been called.  Greater awareness of our presence in the community.  I need to listen more closely to people to discover their needs.  I also need to be reading more.

I need to be more intentional.. I'm thinking about the concept of celebrating victories.  I'm learning that teambuilding is important.  I'm excited about what God has in store for us in the days ahead.

I'm thinking about souls, and I'm excited about the unity that is building in the district.

If it can happen in Lamont, it can happen in my church.  God has spoken to me about looking for reasons to celebrate in the church.  I'm excited about our team!

I'm thinking about the implementation of denominational core values, and also about getting sharp pastors in our district.  God is speaking to me about personal renewal and intentional soulwinning.  I enjoyed making so many ministerial connections, and I'm excited about what God can do in my church, what He's doing in our district and in the world.

I'm thinking about reaching out into our local community more.  I'm learning that it doesn't matter where my church is located; God can do great things.  It's challenging and exciting to think about where to begin and what to do first!

I'm learning that hurting people hurt others and that i should reach out more to the 'unlovely'.  I'm excited about the thought of starting a recovery program.

I'm thinking about how to better minister to those in the community and building relationships oustside of the church, spending quality time in prayer and study.  I'm learning that nothing is impossible with God.  It's me that has limited ability--not Him!  I'm excited to think about all that God wants to accomplish as I am obedient to Him.

I'm thinking about the fact that there is more potential than I could ever dream about.  God dreams are so much bigger!  God is speaking to me about being more 'missional' and equipping people to be the same.  I'm excited about the team spirit in the district and how great it is to be a part of it!

I'm thinking of ways to reach out to others and how to get our church members to be as motivated as I am.  God is speaking to me about being more intentional about winning souls, waking up every day with a purpose and plan to get out into the community, visiting and building relationships.  I'm learning that it's not as much about my efforts as it is about God's Spirit and what He can do.  I'm excited about getting our church to become more active in the community.

God is speaking to me about focusing more on individuals than on church growth.  I'm learning that every geographical area can have a thriving church.  I'm excited about starting fresh, both personally and as a church.

I'm thinking about how we can be more effective for the Kingdom.  I'm not confined by anything;  I just want to start asking, 'What can we do with what we have?'  I'm learning that there's a team and that I'm a part of it!

I'm thinking about getting outside of the four walls of the church.  We can do what we have been called to do.  I'm learning that i can't just talk--I need to put my faith into action!  I'm excited about my fellow pastors doing things together.

I'm thinking about planting churches.

I'm thinking about reaching the 'lost' in our community.  God is speaking to me about the 'perfect blend' of my relationship with Jesus Christ and with others.  I'm learning that there are a lot of things my church could do, but that are only a few that it must do!  I'm excited about returning to my church and loving it and celebrating what the Lord is doing in their lives.\

I'm thinking about how our focus can be more outward and what we may need to 'cut' in order to be fore effective.  God is speaking to me about not limiting Him by setting goals that we think we can reach, but instead making our goal to reach all the lost in our community--'Just one more at any cost'!  I'm learning that there is no place too rural for God to work in.  I'm excited to be 'on board' for whatever God has in store for our church!

God is speaking to me about the concept of the 'clean slate'.  I'm excited to think about the what God will do through me and through our local church.

I'm thinking about how I can be a better example to love our people more.  God is speaking to me about how He wants to help our church to become a 'winning church'.  I'm learning thta I don't have to be afraid of failure, and that i can just concentrate on ministering to people who are hurting.

I'm thinking about how to digest and assimilate the thoughts and concepts of these three precous days!  God is speaking to me about self-evaluation, personal spiritual growth, being 'missional' and doing it intentionally.  I'm learning that I can do all this with God's help.  I'm excited about the renewal of my own heart and vision.

I'm thinking about th challenge of what God wants me, as a pastor, and the church, to do with Him this year.  God is speaking to me about my church being in the center of His will on His building project.  He is also speaking to me about participating in Success University.  I'm learning the value of having fellowship with other pastors.  I'm excited about God has in store this year for my church and me.

I'm thinking about creative ways to reach people and how to inspire people to share their faith.  God is speaking to me about taking our focus outside of the sanctuary.  I'm reminded of the fact that God is fully engaged in reaching the people in our community.  I'm excited about how God is going to use me and our church to reach people for Him.

God is speaking to me about stepping out of my comfort zone.  I'm excited about the spirit and excitment in the district.

God is speaking to me about following His lead.  I'm excited the 'the team' is finally becoming a team.

God is speaking to me about empowering our leaders with authority, and about the 'clean slate' concept.  I'm excited about what our district is doing and how we are coming together; the 'team'--it's beautiful!
